Go To Teaching Book

Stephanie over at Teaching in Room 6 is having a linky party.  What book is your "go to" teacher book?
It was somewhat difficult to pick just one, but I think it would have to be Reading With Meaning by Debbie Miller--This book is amazing and changed the way I taught reading.  Reading it doesn't feel like a text book, nor does it give you step by step curriculum.  She is quite the inspiring lady.

Two books that are not so specific with instruction topics, but have been instrumental in how I talk to kids are The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller and Learning to Trust by Marilyn Watson.

  2. My Reading with Meaning is so dogeared, pages are falling out of it, it's a mess but well loved. Have you ever seen the video series to go along with that book? Oh my gosh, our school district has them for teachers to check out. I spent one whole weekend drooling over Debbie Miller and her teaching. {That and her adorable classroom}

    The teachers in my building are reading The Book Whisperer right now in book club. Can't wait to start reading. I've heard a lot of people talk abou how it has changed them as a teacher. Love the prospects of that!!!!

  3. Hi Ms.Foote,
    I have sent you the Liebster Blog Award. I love the books comment. I can't wait to read the Book Whisperer...I heard it is great!
    1-Head to my blog and right click on the Liebster Blog Award. Click on "save as" and add it to whatever photo album you have.
    2- Go into your blog set-up & click on "design". There will be an area that says "add a gadget". Click on that. A lot of options will come up, but choose "picture". It will then prompt you to choose a picture to add. Select the Liebster Award.
    3-You can move it anywhere on your blog by just clicking on "picture" and sliding it around.
    Hope this helps!!!

  6. I love Debbie Miller's book. It's less than two feet away from me as we speak. I've got "The Book Whisperer" too, but I haven't read it yet. Looks like a great read. (I'm you're newest follower!)
