Bird Book Pages

We have five more days of school.....I have four (for me) since tomorrow I will be here:
My favorite stadium
Watching these guys:
Dodger Blue!

See...the tiny thing on the bottom left corner
Today we had such a fun distraction!  About a month ago, we hung a lot of bird feeders outside our windows.  This afternoon, my chickadees are all working hard on their bird book pages until I hear, "A Chickadee!"  and they migrate to the windows.

And then we finally finished....we have been working on creating a non-fiction book page for what seems like forever.
We started with collecting research.   Our favorite website was All About Birds....and we could check on the hawklets and the heron chicks.

Then we started moving our information onto paper for the page.  I had a template shape for them.  They traced the template and then wrote the information.
And we illustrated our cover.  There is a great picture of a bird and the border is full of words describing their bird.
We glued our information into our book, after sharpie-ing to make the words stand out.
We colored around the boxes and some of us filled in the boxes.  The inside page borders have a poem written from the bird.  "I like fish, but I don't like oil spills."  I like bird feeders, but I don't like oceans."
And wrote an "About the Author" page....these are hilarious btw.
Happy Thursday,

  1. I always appreciate seeing the authentic work your kids are doing. It obviously doesn't originate from a teacher's manual. :)

    1. Thank you. I don't know what I would do if I was required to stick to the teaching guide.

  3. Love the authors' pages, especially the part of why one kiddo wrote the book "because my teacher told me to". Hahaha :)

  4. Wow! Those came out great. I always feel like you see the best work stem from nonfiction pieces! :)
